A 57-year-old Flin Flon man was beaten, robbed and kidnapped by his own roommates in a violent home invasion that moved between two locations before he escaped to safety.
The ordeal began when the victim was awakened by two roommates who immediately started assaulting him and stealing his belongings. But it didn’t end there.
Forced from home to second location
After the initial attack, the roommates forced their victim out of the residence and took him to a home on Church Street. That’s where a third suspect joined in, and the man was assaulted again.
The victim eventually managed to get away from the Church Street address and made his way to a Main Street location. Police were called at 11:40 pm on February 17.
He was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Related: The Pas Home Invasion: Four Arrested After Firearm Robbery
All three suspects found at scene
RCMP officers went straight to the victim’s original residence where the first assault and robbery happened. When they entered the home, they found all three suspects still inside, along with three women.
The suspects were arrested without incident.
The investigation determined that the male was awakened earlier by two of his roommates who began to assault him and rob him of his property.
Charges laid against three men
Gary Gaudet, 56, from Nipawin, Saskatchewan, faces charges of kidnapping, robbery, uttering threats and assault. Keith Saam, 45, and Darren Smith, 34, both from Flin Flon, face the same charges. Related: Hamilton ‘More Connected’ to 2026 Ferrari After Tough Debut Year
All three men were remanded into custody.
Investigation continues
Flin Flon RCMP say their investigation is ongoing. The presence of three other women at the residence when arrests were made suggests there may be more to this story.
The fact that roommates turned on their victim in such a violent way raises questions about what led to this attack. Was it planned? Were drugs or money involved?
What started as a possible assault call turned into something much more serious. The victim’s ability to escape the second location likely prevented even worse outcomes.
