✍️ The forecast · Daily Current Weather Desk

Folks, if you’re heading out for late-night plans or an early morning dog walk, you’re looking at some absolutely gorgeous April conditions tonight. We’ve got crystal clear skies and those light northeasterly winds are keeping things calm across the Lower Mainland.

But here’s the thing about clear April nights – they’re sneaky cold. We’re dropping down to 4°C by dawn, and with those light winds, it’s going to feel even chillier than that. If you’re planning an early morning jog or waiting for the bus before 7 AM, you’ll want that extra layer. I’m talking proper jacket weather, not just a hoodie.

The Next 48 Hours

Wednesday starts off cool but sunny, then things get interesting. The models are all agreeing on a pattern shift as we head into the back half of the week. The GFS and Euro both show our ridge of high pressure getting nudged aside by a developing Pacific low.

By Wednesday afternoon, we’ll see those overcast skies rolling in from the west. No rain yet, but the cloud deck will thicken up. Temperatures stay pleasant though – we’re looking at highs around 13°C on Wednesday climbing to the mid-teens by Thursday.

Thursday’s the pick of the week, honestly. Partly cloudy skies, temps around 15°C, and manageable winds. Perfect for getting those outdoor chores done or hitting the seawall.

Weekend Reality Check

Here’s where I have to be the bearer of not-so-great news. That Pacific system I mentioned? It’s going to park itself right over us for the weekend. We’re talking overcast skies Friday through Sunday, with increasing rain chances as we head into Saturday.

Saturday’s looking like a 34% chance of showers with breezy conditions – those 20 km/h winds will make it feel cooler than the 16°C high suggests. Sunday dials back the rain risk slightly but stays grey and uninspiring.

The Commute

Tonight and tomorrow morning are absolutely perfect for driving. Clear visibility, no precipitation concerns, just watch for that early morning fog in the Fraser Valley – Abbotsford and Chilliwack could see some patchy stuff around sunrise.

By Friday, we’ll start seeing those wet roads return, so dust off your rain driving skills. The weekend commute will be typical April drizzle territory.

Bottom line: enjoy this gorgeous clear spell while it lasts. Mother nature’s giving us a little gift before we return to our regularly scheduled spring programming. And yes, I’ll be out on my deck at midnight checking that sky clarity myself – some habits never die.
