What does the daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin actually look like without makeup? Apple Martin just answered that question in the most refreshing way possible.
The 21-year-old Vanderbilt University law student got completely real about her skin struggles in a new Vogue beauty tutorial shared on her mom’s Goop platform yesterday. And honestly, it’s exactly what we needed to see.
The Reality Behind the Hollywood Daughter Image
“I know I still have a little bit of blemishes and such, but it was really bad in high school,” Apple shared while going through her daily makeup routine. She didn’t try to hide anything either, showing off what she calls her “studenty” skin complete with spots, blemishes, and those persistent dark circles we all know too well.
Here’s the thing that really gets me about this tutorial. Apple could’ve easily done a perfect, Instagram-ready beauty routine. Instead, she chose to be vulnerable and show what real skin looks like when you’re stressed about school and life.
“The more that you stress about it, the worse it will get, most likely. This is all stress, so..” she explained, trailing off with the kind of honesty that makes you want to give her a hug. Related: Canadians are pretty done with America right now, poll shows

Setting the Record Straight on Lip Fillers
Apple also used the tutorial to address something that’s been bugging her for a while. People keep claiming she gets regular lip fillers, and she wanted to shut that down once and for all.
“I got lip filler one time,” she said. “I think I got it when I was 18. I just thought that it was too big, but everyone seems to think that I have crazy lip filler? I just pout my lips a lot, and I put on a lot of lip liner.”
Can you imagine having every facial expression analyzed by strangers online? The fact that she had to explain her natural lip shape shows just how intense the scrutiny can be when you’re born into fame. Related: JWST spots farthest ‘cosmic jellyfish’ galaxy ever found
Raiding Mom’s Closet Like the Rest of Us
But the tutorial wasn’t all serious talk about skin and procedures. Apple got genuinely excited when talking about her favourite hobby: stealing clothes from Gwyneth’s closet.
“My mom’s wardrobe from her twenties is just about my favourite thing in the entire world,” she gushed. “Over winter break, as a little grinch Christmas robbery, I went back down there and I dabbled in trying everything on.”
The story gets better. Apple found a pair of ’90s YSL bootcut suit pants that she was absolutely obsessed with. When Gwyneth told her they weren’t “appropriate to bring to college,” did Apple listen? Of course not.
“But I did take those pants back to college. They make me want to do my work, they’re very like, boss babe vibe.”
Honestly, that’s peak daughter energy right there.
Following in Famous Footsteps
Apple’s been making headlines recently for looking incredibly similar to her Oscar-winning mom. At the New York premiere of “Marty Supreme,” she wore a Calvin Klein slip dress that Gwyneth originally wore in 1996. The internet went wild with the comparisons.
“That was the moment when everyone was like, ‘You’re your mom’s twin,’ and I was like, ‘Thank you, I’ll take it,'” Apple said about the red carpet appearance.
She was there supporting Gwyneth’s latest film alongside Timothée Chalamet, and the photos definitely proved the mother-daughter resemblance is uncanny.
Dealing with Online Drama
Being in the spotlight hasn’t been all vintage YSL pants and red carpet moments for Apple. She’s had to deal with some pretty harsh rumours, including false claims that she was expelled from school for bullying.
“I didn’t wanna respond but this narrative is completely false and has gotten so out of hand,” she wrote in a message addressing the rumours. “I have never been expelled from any school, especially not for bullying anyone.”
What really struck me about her response was how mature it was. She acknowledged that not everyone has to like her, but she wasn’t going to let lies about her character slide.
“I completely understand people not liking me and that’s okay! The internet is a place where people can share their opinions. But this rumour is completely untrue, I am not that type of person and anyone who’s close to me knows that.”
Looking Ahead
With graduation just months away from Vanderbilt University where she’s studying law, history and society, Apple has her sights set on breaking into acting. Given her natural presence in front of the camera and her ability to be genuinely herself, I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of her soon.
Call me optimistic, but this beauty tutorial felt like a turning point. Apple Martin isn’t trying to be perfect or live up to impossible standards. She’s just being real about the messy, stressful, wonderful reality of being 21 years old.
