Tucker Carlson says Israeli security roughed up his team at Ben Gurion Airport after he interviewed US Ambassador Mike Huckabee.

The conservative commentator told the Daily Mail that men identifying themselves as airport security took their passports and hauled his executive producer into a side room. More details are available according to the original report. Their crime? Wanting to know what he and Huckabee talked about during their meeting Wednesday.

“It was bizarre,” Carlson said. “We’re now out of the country.”

Israel Says It Never Happened

Israel’s Foreign Ministry isn’t buying it.

They flat-out denied Carlson was detained, delayed, or interrogated at all. Related: India’s AI Impact Startup Book Launch at Summit 2026

“Mr. Carlson and his party were politely asked a few routine questions, in accordance with standard procedures applied to many travellers. The conversation took place in a separate room within the VIP lounge solely to protect their privacy.”

The ministry called any other claims bogus. Ambassador Huckabee backed up Israel’s version of events, posting on X that passport checks and security questions happen to everyone entering and leaving Israel. Even him, with his diplomatic passport.

A US State Department spokesperson told the Daily Mail that Carlson “received the same positive treatment of any visitors to Israel.” Translation: quit complaining. Related: Porter Airlines Adds Austin, Chicago O’Hare, Deer Lake Routes

The Backstory Gets Interesting

This whole mess started because Carlson has been hammering Israel over its treatment of Christians. In early February, he aired claims that Christians face widespread mistreatment in the country. Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics reports upward of 180,000 Christians live there.

Huckabee didn’t appreciate the criticism from afar. He challenged Carlson directly on social media: “Hey Tucker, instead of talking ABOUT me, why don’t you come talk TO me? You seem to be generating a lot of heat about the Middle East. Why be afraid of the light?”

So Carlson took him up on it. He flew to Tel Aviv Wednesday for the face-to-face meeting.

Never Left the Terminal

Here’s where it gets weird. The Jerusalem Post reported Carlson never actually left Ben Gurion Airport during his visit. He came all that way just to meet Huckabee in the terminal, then turned around and left.

Former US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman called it “a huge and obviously intentional missed opportunity.”

Can’t say he’s wrong.

The whole thing lasted just a few hours. Carlson posted a photo from the airport on X, then apparently got into whatever happened with security on his way out.

Politicians Pick Sides

Former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene jumped on Carlson’s version of events. “American citizen and journalist Tucker Carlson detained in Israel after interviewing our U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee,” she posted. “We won’t tolerate this. You just made it worse.”

But the State Department pushed back hard on that narrative. They said the only thing they coordinated was his private plane landing to make his visit go smoothly. “It was Tucker who chose to only come into the country for a few hours and depart,” the spokesperson said.

Huckabee kept emphasizing that security procedures are standard. “EVERYONE who comes in/out of Israel (every country for that matter) has passports checked and routinely asked security questions. Even ME going in/out with Diplomatic Passport and Diplomatic Visa.”

Two Different Stories

So we’ve got Carlson saying his team was hassled and questioned about their interview. Israel saying it was routine security in a VIP lounge for privacy. The State Department backing Israel’s account.

Who’s telling the truth?

Probably depends on your perspective going in. If you think Israel overreaches on security, Carlson’s story sounds believable. If you think he’s stirring up controversy for clicks, the official version makes more sense.

What we know for sure is this: Carlson flew halfway around the world, met Huckabee for a few hours in an airport terminal, then left claiming he was mistreated on the way out. Whether that mistreatment actually happened is now he-said, they-said.

“No unusual incident occurred, and the Israel Airports Authority firmly rejects any other claims,” the official statement read.
